JFA 0.6.0-rc1
Release candidate
JFA 0.6.0-rc1 is the release candidate for the next stable Family Archive release. It brings together the major architecture, workflow and usability work completed since the previous stable line.
What does “rc1” mean?
RC means release candidate. The intended feature set is in place and the release is being tested as a potential stable version. Bugs discovered during real use may still result in another release candidate before JFA 0.6.0 is declared stable.

GENEALOGY
Independent genealogy core
JFA now owns the genealogy functionality it needs instead of depending on a separate family-tree plugin.
GEDCOM
Native GEDCOM import
Import people and family relationships through JFA with preview-before-write behaviour and source-aware reimport handling.
MEDIA
Portable private storage
Private archive storage is handled through a provider layer with health and protection checks.
PEOPLE
Searchable person selection
Person pickers in major photo and album workflows are searchable instead of requiring long manual scrolling.
PHOTOS
Pictured vs related people
Photographs distinguish people who are actually visible from people who belong only to the wider context.
METADATA
Sources and provenance
Archive material can record original URLs, creators, institutions, rights information, digitization details and who shared the material.
DOCUMENTS
Improved PDF handling
Single-file documents and multi-part archive documents have clearer viewing and download behaviour.
SETUP
First-install onboarding
New installations receive an initial setup flow for archive identity, homepage behaviour, appearance and optional genealogy import.
DESIGN
Three archive profiles
Neutral, Classic and Modern provide configurable visual starting points for different family archives.
Family accounts and administration
The account workflow has also been simplified for private family archives. Administrators can create accounts directly and generate readable passwords without relying on an email-invitation workflow.
Administration navigation and Swedish translations have also received cleanup work as part of the release.
Release-candidate testing
The release candidate has been exercised in fresh-install and upgrade scenarios before publication, including private-storage behaviour and migration from the previous database version.
Fresh installation
A clean WordPress installation can activate and initialize the release candidate.
Upgrade path
The upgrade path from JFA 0.5.0 to the release candidate has been tested with migrated archive data.
Private media
Protected files have been tested for blocked direct access and controlled JFA delivery.
Real-world testing still matters.
A release candidate is where unusual hosting environments, genealogy exports and real archive workflows can expose cases that automated and controlled tests do not. Reproducible bug reports are therefore especially valuable during the RC period.

Stable vs pre-release
Stable
For ordinary installations
A stable release is the version recommended when you primarily want to run the archive rather than help test the next version.
Pre-release
For testing upcoming changes
A release candidate is suitable when you are comfortable testing the next release, keeping backups and reporting unexpected behaviour.
