Privacy without surveillance.

This policy applies to the public project portal at familyarchive.eu. Family Archive is an open-source project. This privacy notice describes the limited personal data processed when you visit the portal or contact the project.

What information is processed?

The portal does not use advertising trackers, behavioural analytics, fingerprinting or cross-site tracking. There is no public account registration and there are no public comment or contact forms on the portal.

Limited technical information is nevertheless processed when a web browser connects to the site. This can include:

• IP address
• date and time of the request
• requested page or resource
• HTTP status and amount of data transferred
• browser and user-agent information
• referring page when the browser supplies one

This information is used to deliver the website, maintain reliability, investigate errors and abuse, and protect the service.

Language preference and cookie

The portal uses Polylang to provide English and Swedish versions. Polylang sets the functional cookie pll_language so that the site can remember the selected language.

• Security: Secure and SameSite=Lax
• Tracking: not used for advertising or behavioural profiling

The portal currently uses no analytics or advertising cookies.

Server logs

The portal is hosted on project-controlled infrastructure in Strasbourg, France. Normal web-server access logs can contain the technical request information described above, including the visitor’s IP address.

Logs are maintained on a rolling, size-limited basis for operation, security and troubleshooting. They are not used to create visitor profiles or for advertising.

When you contact Family Archive

If you email the project, the information you choose to send — such as your email address, name, message and attachments — is processed so that the project can read and respond to your message.

Email sent to privacy@familyarchive.eu or contact@familyarchive.eu is routed through SimpleLogin and delivered to Proton Mail. SimpleLogin is a service of Proton AG in Switzerland.

External links

The portal links to other services, including the Family Archive demo, Codeberg, GitHub and support platforms. These are ordinary links, not embedded tracking widgets. The external provider is contacted when you choose to follow its link.

When you visit an external service, that service can receive ordinary connection information such as your IP address, browser information and the referring origin according to its own configuration and privacy policy.

Supporting the project

Family Archive can be supported through Liberapay and Buy Me a Coffee. The portal uses plain external links rather than embedded payment widgets.

• Liberapay is operated by a non-profit organisation established in France.
• Buy Me a Coffee is operated by Publisherr Inc in the United States.

If you choose to support the project, payment and account information is processed by the service you select and its payment providers under their own privacy terms. Familyarchive.eu does not collect or process your card details.

The project may receive information that the support service makes available to the recipient, such as a supporter name, message or contribution information.

Why the information is processed

Where the GDPR applies, the limited technical information described above is processed primarily for the legitimate interests of operating, securing and troubleshooting the public project site. Information you send by email is processed in order to respond to your request and maintain necessary project correspondence.

How long is information kept?

• The pll_language cookie expires after one year.
• Web-server logs are rotated on a size-limited basis and older log data is replaced as the configured limits are reached.
• Email correspondence is kept only while it is needed to handle the communication or remains relevant to project administration, after which it can be deleted or minimised.
• External support services apply their own retention periods to information processed on their platforms.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, data-protection law may give you the right to request access to personal data about you, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction of processing or to object to certain processing.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY): imy.se.

Changes to this notice

This notice can be updated when the portal, hosting, support services or data-processing practices change. The date at the top of the page indicates the current version.
