JFA
A family archive built around the material that tells the story.
Bring photographs, documents, albums, people and genealogy context together in a private WordPress-based archive that you host yourself.
Current pre-release
JFA 0.6.0-rc1
The current release candidate focuses on independence, customization, genealogy import, clearer metadata and a smoother archive workflow.
Material first
The family tree provides context. The archive material is the point.
JFA is designed for families who have photographs, letters, scanned documents, albums, stories and other material that becomes more useful when it is connected to the people behind it.
Genealogy helps you navigate and understand the archive, but JFA is not intended to replace dedicated genealogy software.
What JFA brings together
One archive, several kinds of family history
Photographs & albums
Organize photographs, identify pictured people, connect related people and build albums around the material.
Documents & PDFs
Keep letters, records, scans and multi-part archive material together with descriptions, dates, places and sources.
People & genealogy
Use people, family relationships and a navigable family tree to give archive material meaningful context.
GEDCOM import
Bring the genealogy you already maintain elsewhere into JFA and use the relevant people and relationships as archive context.
Private media
JFA is built for private family material, with protected media delivery and archive access controlled through WordPress and JFA permissions.
Sources & provenance
Record where material came from, original links, creators, institutions, rights information and digitization details.
Genealogy as a bridge
Keep using the genealogy tools you prefer.
JFA does not need to become the place where you build every branch of a large family tree. Import the genealogy you need through GEDCOM and let JFA use it for people, relationships, navigation and context.
